CVL’s Reopening Plan

In the interest of public health, and minimizing COVID-19 transmission, the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries has developed a plan for a phased reopening.  All dates are subject to change based on local conditions.



Please note: The pandemic has changed the way we will operate libraries for the foreseeable future.  A new Pandemic Code of Conduct  has been approved by the CVL Regional Board  for the safety of library staff and customers.

Phase One Begins May 26 : Curbside Hold Pick Up

  • Customers can place holds online through the Library’s catalog or new mobile app.
  • Returns are accepted during new temporary Curbside Hold Pick Up Hours which vary by location. Click on your favorite branch location for details.
  • Virtual programs are available on the Library’s Facebook & YouTube

At this time, 24 Hour Kiosks are open for checkout but returns must be taken to a branch location. Book drops remain closed.


Phase 2A Begins September 8:  Limited Indoor Computer Services  

  • In addition to services in Phase One, all 7 locations will open to the public including staff retrieval for shelf checks for curbside.  The 24-Hour kiosks open to the public for holds and browsing only; no returns.
  • Limited computer services for adults on a first come first serve basis. (Masks required)
  • Virtual programs  continue.
  • Curbside service will continue as an option for customers now including staff retrieval of shelf checks.
    HOW:
    * Socially distant computer use only; 1 hour sessions.
    * Computer users should wear masks. (Provided by the Library if needed)
    * Building Occupancy Guidelines established to minimize exposure.
    * Staff will disinfect computer equipment between all sessions.
    * Socially distant waiting areas.
    * To reduce cash transactions, black and white printing <= 10 pages are free.
    * Remainder of the buildings will be closed to the public.

Phase 2B Begins October 12 

  • Customers can sign up for a Library card, browse the stacks, and check out materials.
  • Curbside service will continue as an option for customers.
  • Virtual Programs  continue.
  • Possibility of expanding operating hours based on local conditions.
    HOW:
    * Chairs are removed from all public areas except socially distant computer areas.
    * Self-checks will be cleaned at regular intervals.
    * Branches will have occupancy limits monitored by staff.

Please note: We will be adhering to building occupancy guidelines as needed.  At this time, 24 Hour Kiosks are open for checkouts but returns must be taken to a branch location. Book drops remain closed.


Phase Three Begins TBD : Expanding Indoor Services

  • In addition to services in Phases One and Two, normal operating hours will be restored.
  • Study rooms will now be available to the public on a first come first serve basis.
  • Staff will add new social distancing seating areas for customers.
  • Computer use will expand to the Children’s & Teen Departments.

  • The 24-Hour kiosks open to the public for holds and browsing only; no returns.
  • Library staff will resume limited public programming. We encourage customers to visit our events calendar for an updated listing.
  • Meeting room use will be available to the public on a limited basis.

At this time, book drops remain closed.


Phase Four – TBD Normal Operating  

We will resume normal operations with continued safety precautions.

  • Books drops open to the public- We will no longer quarantine materials.
  • The 24-Hour kiosks begin accepting returns.
  • Full Meeting Room use.
  • Public programming resumes.

For Your Safety Our Staff Will: 

  • Conduct Staff Wellness Checks
  • Wear Masks
  • Regularly Disinfect Surfaces
  • Practice Social Distancing
  • Adhere to Occupancy Guidelines
