Enjoy an explosive summer of reading, events, prizes and more at the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries during Spark a Reaction. It’s easy to participate. Sign up online and begin reading today. The first 900 participants to sign up will receive a mood cup. Read any way you want, earn badges and get entered for a chance to win a Nintendo 3DS, Beats™ Speakers, a new Surface Tablet and more! This year’s dates are May 17th – July 11th.

Rules

  • Read for 5 hours; anything you want (books, graphic novels, or blogs) and earn a lanyard.
  • Record your progress online.
  • Read for 10 hours and be one of the first 120 teens to register for Summer Reading to receive a Carmike movie pass.
  • When you read 5, 10, and 20 hours earn an electronic badge that you can share on social media, and pick up a corresponding button at your favorite library.
  • Every 5 hours of reading earns one entry into the grand prize drawing and the branch prize drawing. The maximum number of entries is three for each prize drawing.

  • A Series of Harry Potter Nights @ Your Library

    When: Tuesday, May 01, 2018 - 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Mildred L. Terry Public Library at Alpha Kappa Alpha Room

    Especially if you are a Harry Potter fan, take Platform 9 & 3/4 to a Hogwarts satellite campus (Mildred L. Terry Library). Consider this an official exam week; bring a team to be sorted and brush up on your arithmancy! There will be trivia, music, crafts, and photo ops. Costumes are encouraged! Muggles are welcome!

    When: Thursday, May 03, 2018 - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
    Where: North Columbus Public Library at Large Conference Room

    Come join us to test your knowledge! You may play as individuals or as teams, whoever has the most points, wins a prize!

  • Revenge de la Fifth: A Star Wars Cinco de Mayo

    When: Saturday, May 05, 2018 - 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM
    Where: North Columbus Public Library at Large Conference Room

    Come celebrate Cinco de Mayo...Star Wars Style! We will be celebrating by displaying Latin and Star Wars themed food, drinks, and crafts! All materials will be provided. All ages welcome. Event begins at 2PM and will be followed by a showing of " The Last Jedi" at 3:00 PM

    Love to read? Love crafts? Please join us each month as we read a selected title and gather to discuss it as well as make a craft themed to the book we are reading that month. You don't have to have read the book to attend, come discuss what you have been reading!

  • Preschool Adventures

    Where: Columbus Public Library at Aflac Storytime Room

    Preschool Adventures encourages visits to the library for socialization and interaction with peers. Children will listen to read alouds, songs, rhymes, and finger plays. Flannel board stories and puppets may allow for audience participation to reinforce that reading is fun!

  • Tiny Tales

    When: Monday, April 30, 2018 - 11:05 AM - 11:35 AM
    Where: Columbus Public Library at Aflac Storytime Room

    Tiny Tales is a fun program that introduces babies and toddlers to books and language activities. Parents are encouraged to take on the role as their child’s first teacher. Activities may involve stories, books, rhymes, music, movement, finger plays, puppets and educational toys.
